Applied Solutions Webinar: Creative Approaches to Clean Energy Financing
The Applied Solutions webinar series continued in January with a look at Creative Approaches to Clean Energy Financing through the lens of Salt Lake and Sonoma Counties’ projects that used innovative financing structures to help make possible local energy projects. Salt Lake County representatives spoke about their Salt Palace Solar Project, which at 1.65 MW will more than double the current solar capacity of the state of Utah, and how they used a combination of Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds, a Power Purchase Agreement and other partnerships to fund the project. The Sonoma County Water Agency highlighted its innovative Farms to Fuel project, which will use an anaerobic digester to make energy and fertilizer out of chicken manure, which was funded in part by a PPA, a public private partnership, along with other mechanisms.
